
Celebrated throughout the United States and Europe for her “quintessential lyric soprano voice”, soloist Angela Powell embodies the highest standards of artistic performance in the classical music world. As the Artistic Associate for Vocal Development, Ms. Powell employs her musical skill and educational experience to enhance the Master Chorale’s sound and presentation.
Ms. Powell is a beloved performer and has appeared in numerous operatic roles, including the title characters in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah, Le Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Micaela in Carmen, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. She connects with audiences around the globe, from the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City to appreciative spectators in Rome, Prague, and Vienna.
A preeminent competitor, Ms. Powell has acquired many first place awards, including the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition, the Paul Robeson Competition, the National Society of Arts and Letters Vocal Competition and the Sigma Alpha Iota National Vocal Competition. She is also a recipient of the Maryland State Arts Council’s highest grant awarded to a vocalist.
Ms. Powell studied the anatomy and function of the human voice in groundbreaking work at the Cleveland Clinic while earning her B.M at Oberlin College. She furthered her studies through the Master of Music program at the University of Maryland and began a 20 year career in voice instruction. In addition to her work with our dynamic choral group, she is also a professor of voice at the Washington Bible College in Lanham, MD.
